My thoughts on “deficit education”:
That “deficit’ is the result of the teaching profession turning toward a medical process of “curing” that deficit instead of focusing the whole teaching and learning process. The practice of medicine and the practice of teaching and learning are two completely different realms. But “educators” (I use quotes because I can’t stand the way that term is used by non-teachers who insist on identifying themselves as supposed teachers) sought prestige, the prestige and more importantly, hopefully, the money, of the medical realm. It’s a fool’s quest that has caused much harm to the students and the teaching and learning process.
